Updating Python function apps is broken

I am using func version 4.0.5455 running on Ubuntu 22.04. I have managed to publish a Python function to a function app via func azure functionapp publish my-function-app. But when I make local modifications and try to run this command again if fails with "Response status code does not indicate success: 404 (Site Not Found)".

Can you provide the exact steps to reproduce it issue. Modification and redeployment of the code should be break the function app.
