Lag spikes in TTS when using mic (on MacOSX)

Hi!

I was just wondering whether you might know how I can diagnose the following issue.

OS: MacOS Ventura
Mac laptop with M1 processor.

Behaviour: since about 2 weeks ago, there are consistent lag spikes while using TTS for me. These get especially bad when I turn on the mic via push-to-talk, to the point that the game disconnects.

What I have tried:
reinstalling TTS
reinstalling Steam
upgrading OS
I tested our internet connection - there is loads of free bandwidth, no packets get lost via wifi.

Any idea what could be causing this issue or even how to further diagnose it?
