Manifesto

Why should you vote for me?

  1. Nepotism
  2. I will continue rewriting everything in HackSoc in glorious Rust, just as the founding fathers intended
  3. I can't think of any other reasons right now so I'll just fill this one out after I've finished obsessing over how to display tables in my dissertation

Jokes aside

Hello, some of you (probably all of you to be completely honest) will already know me. I'm Indraneel, a third year MSci CS with AI student 👋.

I'm not really a fan of writing long-winded essays, so I'll keep this manifesto short.

Why pick me for DevSec:

  • I like programming, and I'd like to think I'm fairly good at it.
  • I have been on the CS Mentoring Scheme for two years, and I'm also going to be an honorary mentor next year. As part of this I rewrote their Discord server's registration bot from scratch.
  • I also helped set up an inter-department (CS and Physics) competitive programming group (more on this later).
  • I volunteered for helping out at HackNotts last year and will probably do so this year too (I can't wait for my kidneys to finally give up after having six Red Bulls in a row).

What will I do as DevSec:

  • Rewrite everything in Rust I'll maintain HackSoc's infrastructure, I guess 👍.
  • I hope to organize a few more programming-related workshops and events throughout the year. A little more variety would be nice.
    • To add to this, I've also been thinking of competitive programming specifically. There is a growing inter-department competitive programming group, and it would be nice to have these students as a part of HackSoc and organise competitive programming events.
    • Advent of Code is another such event that I think we could capitalise on. There is already a uni-wide AoC leaderboard and the mentors promote this as much as possible, but it would be fun if HackSoc could run eg. AoC introduction sessions or meet every week to discuss AoC solutions.
  • I really can't think of anything else right now, but I'm sure if I give it some thought I will be able to come up with a few more points. For now though I need to get back to writing my diss 👍.

That is all.
