Background: I LOVE MPD!, I use it everywhere at home (rpi), Office (laptop), phone (Android), Car (phone + file server on rpi in the car). Car stereos get the song details from the notification of the app that plays the music. Problem is the MPD is not registered as a proper music player with Android (does not respect phone calls or "ducking" for arriving notifications such as messages), so the car will never get the song details and never would be able to control MPD playback.
I've manage to workaround it in a very ugly way, I use MAFA (MPD controller app) and set MPD to use "httpd" audio_output, then set MAFA to play the stream with Android's internal music player so this way MAFA is considered the music player thus the song details and the playback control (notification) are working.
So I know, MPD is much more than an Android music player, but by integrating it as one could add a substantial value and smoothness to its usage.
Make MPD app to register as a proper music player with Android
Add a (configurable?) notification, i.e. playback control (prev, play/pause toggle, next) and song details (title, artist, album, picture).
Thank you so much for all the effort so far, and keep up the good work!

Sorry, I have very little time to maintain the Android app - I wish there was a volunteer to help maintain it. The Android app could be so much more, but lacks development resources.
