I am wondering how integrated the ff-go library is with the main OF code, I would like to extend a few things myself (namely this: OpenFunction/functions-framework#24) but I do not know if it will affect the builder and such. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Glad you're interested. The function framework affects the builders' generation and for the main repo, ff context information is passed to the workload when reconciling functions.
