Right now, setting org.gnome.desktop.interface color-scheme to prefer-dark on these templates does nothing. GNOME settings app is also broken.

The fixes are simple:

  • Add XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=GNOME to /etc/environment
  • Install gnome-shell in the template

After a reboot, everything will work properly. While these are easy fixes, they are quite annoying to find (it took me hours debugging this). It would be great if the fixes are incorporated into the templates for everyone.
