Qubes OS release

Qubes OS 64 bit 4.2.1 (R4.2)

Brief summary

There is no sound coming out from Whonix VMs ( all Debian and Fedora VMs are working fine)

Audio is not working for Whonix VMs, even if you try to go to the PulseAudio manage icon on the Dom0 menu and click on it. There will be no AppVM listed as shown in the Screenshot.
I tried to install PulseAudio on the Whonix template VM and it still does not work.

From what I researched on Qubes Forum and Whonix Qubes Forum this is a known issue, and a few users had it, but I haven't seen any issue about that here, so I'm making this one to help.

Steps to reproduce

  • Install the latest version of Qubes on your PC
  • Open the Tor Browser on any Whonix VM (DVM or Anon)
  • Try to play a video on YouTube or an audio
  • Try to manage Audio from Dom0's PulseAudio Icon and "Manage Audio" menu

Expected behavior

  • Audio coming out from Whonix App VMs
  • Being able to manage and see Whonix audio from the PulseAudio menu

Actual behavior

  • Audio does not work on Whonix VMs
  • Whonix App VMs not shown on PulseAudio menus.
