[ANNOUNCEMENT] WebCord's development might slow down a bit this/next year.

Hi everyone!

For me, this/next year is going to be quite busy – I don't want to give any details here through (don't ask me for them!), it's just personal. That being said, WebCord's development might slow down a bit and I may not have much time to work on new features. It's not the paid project I do for a living (and it was never meant to be like that) and I have spend it on higher-priority tasks right now that might affect my current and future life than keeping WebCord receive new features.

This thread/post is an announcement for that – this project will be in maintenance-only mode from now. This is what is going to change:

• I may no longer work on new features and improve the existing ones. However, I might still accept Pull Requests made by the community if the features are ready. I'll try my best to work on some already made Pull Requests and prepare them to be merged. Eventually, I may open an another branch where I'll allow to skip some quality checks and merge these PRs there. Either way, I want to handle them in some way.
• I'll try my best to adapt code for the new dependencies and fix bugs. However, it might take a while to resolve them depending on my free time. Please try to understand that if any critical issue isn't being touched as fast as you would expect.
• Some slight and non-time consuming improvements might be done. It's not guaranteed I will do any, but as long as I will feel I'm able to implement them with my current time, I'll approach to work on them and publish them into the public at some point.

You should also know these aren't strict rules I'm going to follow – you should however threat this as a warning that I may not be available as much as I was before. So I don't say no more features are going to be made – I just say I might lack of time to actually implement them. No promises are made, but I'll still try to give to this project as much time as I'm able to. After all, I'm still using it myself as my only Discord client (and I want it to be at least reliable)!

WebCord might be fully maintained again around the next summer. Until then, some commits should be made so this project won't end up being rotten and will be keep up-to-date with both Electron and NPM dependencies. Same limitations should apply to any other project I maintain.

I hope you all understand this situation. Remember, WebCord isn't being monetized in any way (so please don't have any expectations for it like you have paid me), it's a project I've maintained in my free time for the whole time. So please be patient. I hope this post won't affect much. After all, WebCord is still going to be maintained!

Will you accept new maintainers?

Maybe, right now I would prefer PRs. WebCord is still going to be maintained in some way but it hasn't been prepared well for maintainers other than me. I need to add some policy to the documentation in case of the code style, commit style (yes, I have a one) and make sure branch protections are OK – I don't want to allow anyone to push directly into the master and maybe even forbid force-pushing for all branches (except me) for obvious reasons.

I've set up a project on Weblate quite recently, forgot to mention about this to you… Looks like Spanish translators are actually in need 😄:

Feel free to use this for localization. However, if you preferred the old way of localizing WebCord or want to use any other tools, I'll also accept PRs made on GitHub (but I'll probably accept PRs done by Weblate first to avoid conflicts).

@MrCoolAndroid Althrough I've merged the changes, I'm not sure how app.getLocale will work… I'll probably try to work on some logic so if e.g. your locale is en-US (or en_US; it should work regardless of the separator), it will also match en localization files, but prefer en-US localization files if present (so that should fix some potential issues with multi-locale languages support).

For now, there's also a way to enforce the specific locale in Electron itself – you can add --lang={code} [to WebCord's command line] to enforce specific locale, for Spanish that would be --lang=es…

As this thread is no longer relevant and WebCord development is getting revived a bit to what it was before (with an exception that major updates will no longer be made – client rewrite should be considered as such when ready), I close this thread. Thank you all for any act of support ❤️!
