I'm seeing things about squirrel latest versions using stub exes, but this is not mentioned in the install process or shown in the directory contents screenshots for installs. I have errors but it is hard to debug them when I can't be certain what the expected behaviour is.

So it turns out my problem is that I am trying to deploy a console app. As far as I can tell the documentation says nothing about console apps being a special case.

Any updates on this? seems like an extra application is used to start the real App, not a shortcut, is it really necessary?

@MrBjorn #868 explains the motivation behind the changes. The documentation should be updated to reflect those motivations and changes.
@billw2012 are you refering to this page of the documentation? it seems to be the one that has a screenshot with the install hierarchy, and it doesn't seem to reflect the actual behavior.
