Is it possible to import a mix of CommonJS-only deps and ESM-only deps?

Hello! Please forgive my lack of understanding/clarity in this post, hopefully it makes sense, so what I am trying to do is:

1. I want to import built-in Node stuff (e.g. path, fs), so I do import fs from 'fs', for example.
2. At the same time, I also want to import ESM-only dependencies, such as https://github.com/unifiedjs/unified.

I want to do both in the same .ts file. Here is my tsconfig.json:

This is the file that I am trying to run:

import fs from 'fs/promises';
import path from 'path';

import { unified } from 'unified';
import remarkParse from 'remark-parse';
import remarkGfm from 'remark-gfm';
import remarkRehype from 'remark-rehype';
import rehypeStringify from 'rehype-stringify';

I'm going to run it with ts-node /path/to/file.ts. The initial package.json does not have "type": "module" yet.

First attempt

Error [ERR_REQUIRE_ESM]: require() of ES Module /path/to/file.ts not supported.
Instead change the require of index.js in /path/to/file.ts to a dynamic import() which is available in all CommonJS modules.

Second attempt

After reading some issues, I take it that CommonJS only accepts require, so I tried to change the module in my ts-node compilerOptions to ESNext.

SyntaxError: Cannot use import statement outside a module

Well, the error changes. It would appear that Node doesn't understand import. According to some issues, I need to add "type": "module" to my package.json, so here goes...

Third attempt

TypeError [ERR_UNKNOWN_FILE_EXTENSION]: Unknown file extension ".ts" for /path/to/file.ts

Are there any other options? Other things that I have tried:

1. Ignoring unified, remark-*, and rehype-* using RegEx in ts-node ignore
2. Running it with node -r ts-node/register /path/to/file.ts
3. Running it with node --loader ts-node/esm

All 3 didn't do the trick... if you have some experiences regarding this kind of thing, I will really appreciate it if you could share your thoughts. Thanks!
