When I have the same file Doc1 in two panes P1 and P2 in split view, clicking on a section in the table of contents tab (in the right-hand pane) moves both of the panes P1 and P2 to that section in Doc1. This is counter-intuitive as the idea of having two panes is to be able to work on them in parallel. I might be working on the introduction section of Doc1 in P1, and on the discussion section of Doc1 in P2. If I want to browse from introduction to background section in P1 by clicking on the background section in table of contents, then also P2 goes to the background section in Doc1 even if I was still intending to work on the discussion section. P1 and P2 should not be synchronized when I click on a section in the table of contents. My current workaround is to not use the table of content pane and just move back and forth in each pane using cursor and page down/up.
Proposed Changes
My proposal is to separate each pane's table of content tab and allow for independent browsing in the table of content without affecting other panes that might have the same document open.
Caveats
I am not sure how the table of content pane and the document panes in split view are connected. I would not be surprised if this enhancement might require a rethinking of these connections, maybe also their performance. I cannot see any negative consequence for the user though.
