Does anyone know if it might be possible to shift from light mode to dark mode similar to how Redshift does for time of day? The ideal behavior, I think, would be to have the shift be dependent upon actual environmental luminosity, detectable by webcam as opposed to local time of day which is how Redshift functions.

As a workaround, I can map the light/dark modes to hotkeys, but the Redshift functionality would be much more ideal. Or possibly, have the color gradient computed based on local luminosity (something that exists between the light and dark mode), then optionally apply it via hotkey.
