Sometimes links have trailing slashes, sometimes no. This need to be made uniform.

For me, a trailing slash is useful to signify (to the user) a collection, the existence of something under it...

I agree. Currently we use both for the same URL :)

There should be a canonical URL, but the other version should work too. (Why not?)

Yes, but in our internal links, we mustn't mix both styles for the same resource :)
