\textit gets wrapped in \text on any edit

If you have a \textit part of the math-field and makes any edit to the expression (even if it doesn't touch what's in the \textit part) it will get wrapped in \text

Steps to Reproduce

1. Import latex \textit{hello}+123
2. Write a 4 at the end
3. Export to latex again, it's now \text{\textit{hello}}+1234
