Hello. GH sponsorships seems to be the easiest way, and everyone will see it on the repo page, so many people could see it and donate |

The problem as I see is that using sponsorship is very much optional and not very discoverable. I think a free/limited tier would make the most sense as that would help you estimate capacity needs better (new user == at most X amount of data/usage). It would also encourage users to pay for hosting when they hit the limit if they feel that it's valuable. atuin could have configuration options to allow forgetting history past a certain limit, or have a nag prompt. The default should probably be to nag people so they are aware that data will be dropped off. |

I've hosted a public + free version of Atuin for almost year now, and lately it's been facing scaling issues. For example: #255 (comment)
This can almost certainly be optimised, but at the end of the day more users is going to cost more $
I'd like to find a way of funding this if possible. Personally, I can see two potential ways forward
To elaborate more on #2, it would involve something of a free tier. I'd place this at ~10k history items hosted, for free, and then charging something like $5/mo for unlimited history hosting. I also have a few other ideas that would make a premium version a bit more fun :)
The current cost of Atuin is really not going to bankrupt me, but I'd like to start planning ahead for this. I don't want a future where I end up closing the hosting because it's too expensive, so having it fund itself would be amazing!
I'd love to hear your thoughts ❤️ 🐢
