I was not able to get the test working with JUnit 5 and Java 17.
Is there any plan to add support for these in near future?

I don't know what are JDKs requirements, but maybe now you can use Java 15.0.2? Works fine on my environment, you need to only change import org.junit.jupiter.api.Test; to import org.junit.Test; from JUnit 4.

You can use thejunit-vintage engine as explained above.
