Talk title

Love your Junior

Abstract

Ninja-Rockstar-Senior recruiting madness is still very much alive despite how ridiculously hard it is to find available talent. The demand for developers is insane and at the same time there's a lot of smart but inexperienced people eager to work on something, but too few companies are looking in their direction. Everybody wants to hire the top notch devs and launch ASAP.

Fortunately, we are all seeing a slow but steady growing interest in Juniors and building teams from the ground up. In the last few years I've been working a lot with them and I'd like to share the many things I learned along the way. What should be our role as seniors and mentors? Why should we want juniors in our team? And how many of them are enough? How can we help them become productive as quickly as possible, in a healthy and effective way?

Hey @luisfarzati, thanks for submitting! Sorry that it's taken this long to get back to you. Your talk idea is great (I'm totally biased as a junior dev myself - but still)

The thing is, we already have a very similar topic in the February lineup. Do you have any other topics that you'd like to speak about? Otherwise if you'd still like to present on this topic we can do that - but it would have to be a bit later in the year.

Let me know what you think 😊

👋 @luisfarzati, just checking in on this to see if you're still interested in speaking. If you don't reply within a week or so then I'll close the issue (mostly to keep everything organized) - but of course, you can always open a new one 😁

Hi @carolstran, sorry for the delayed response! I saw this like a couple of weeks ago but then totally forgot... Still interested, yes, would be great to schedule it for around May or June. Does that work for you guys?

No problem! Did you see my previous comment though? Except realistically I don't know if we'd be able to schedule anything until closer to Q3 so then it could be ok to have some topic overlap. What do you think?

Q3 sounds good! 👌

👋 Hey @luisfarzati! I made a note to check in with you about speaking in Q3. If you're available for either the August 15th or September 19th meetup, just let me know 😊

Hey @luisfarzati, sorry for my delay but no problem! Let me know when you have a chance. September is filling up but August (15.08), October (17.10) and November (21.11) are still free.

Actually @luisfarzati, quick question for you. Is there any chance that you'd be open to delivering a 5-10 minute version of your talk?

If not, no worries - we can keep planning for the regular-length version. Just trying to think of ways to get more people on our stage before the end of 2019 🤔💡 ⚡️ 🚀

Hi @carolstran , sorry! This is not a good time for me, but yes totally open to do a short version as well. Right now I'm in between too many things (change of jobs included!) so I can't/don't really want to make any plans now. I'll ping you back later for sure :)

Hey @luisfarzati, thanks for getting back to me and no problem! Sorry as well because I can be a little aggressive with the notifications 😅

I totally understand how you're feeling. I'll mark this talk as "on hold" for now but whenever you feel comfortable and open to presenting, please just ping us 🙌
