Talk title

Build More with WebAssembly

Abstract

You can build amazing apps in the browser, but there are some (like a video editor) you wouldn't dare to build - until now. WebAssembly (wasm) gives you the ability to push the limits of the browser. Together we'll learn how to integrate wasm into existing JS code to build new kinds of experiences.

We'll take a look at the various reasons to use wasm from improving existing JavaScript libraries to rewriting entire applications. We'll examine what the state of wasm tooling is and just how easy starting and maintaining a project in wasm can be. Finally we'll improve an existing JavaScript library by using a wasm module written in Rust.

Hey @rylev, thanks for submitting a talk 😊I've added it to our cue. Just wondering, how long it be?

@carolstran I haven't given it yet so I can't say for sure. I think I could create a 30 minute version of it, but maybe 40 minutes is the more natural version.

How long roughly is the cue?

@rylev Sorry ignore my inability to deal with GitHub 🤦‍♀️ I'll check with my co-organizers and get back to you!

@rylev It depends™️ Things shift around a bit all the time due to availability of speakers around the meetup dates.

👋 @rylev, quick question for you. Is there any chance that you'd be open to delivering a 5-10 minute version of your talk?

If not, no worries - we can keep you on the regular waitlist. Just trying to think of ways to get more people on our stage before the end of 2019 🤔💡 ⚡️ 🚀

Hello! Thanks a bunch for the ping. Ive given a similar talk at a conference and struggled to make the 25 minute limit so 5-10 minutes sounds too difficult unfortunately. Is it OK if I just wait for a spot to open up?

No problem! You're actually at the top of the waitlist. July and August are already full, but if you're free for either the September 19, October 17 or November 21 meetup then let us know 😁

Quick update: September is now also full. But October, November or any month in 2020 so far works 😊

Hey hey @rylev, just wanted to check in and see if you're still up for giving a talk at our meetup later this month (November 21) 🍰 And if yes, then please let me know by the end of the week if you want to make any changes to your title/abstract before we add it to the website!

We're aiming to announce the lineup next week 😊

Hey @rylev, checking in again. We're going to announce the meetup tomorrow most likely, but you're still more than welcome to speak if you want to! Just let me know if we can expect you or not 😊

👋 @rylev,

unfortunately we had to cancel our March & April meetups due to the novel coronavirus (https://twitter.com/berlinjs/status/1238117450811572226).

We'll put you on the waitlist again and we'll see how the situation evolves. Hope to have you at our meetup then (you're on top of the waitlist)
