Select File > Import > Existing projects into workspace and choose a root directory that contains a template project that is not yet imported into the workspace. Make sure to select the Search for nested projects option.
The screenshot shows that project templates can be selected even though I wouldn't make sense to actually import these projects.
I suggest to change the name of the template project file to _project, or anything else that isn't recognized as a project description file by Eclipse. This would eliminate the 'false' projects from the import dialog.
