How do I avoid ending up with <br> tags in the output?
<br>
For example, if the input is: <i>italics</i> <br/> <h1> header 1 </h1>
<i>italics</i> <br/> <h1> header 1 </h1>
The ouput is:
_italics_ <br> # header 1
The <br/> became a <br> (great!) but then isn't converted to markdown (not great).
