I'm sure you've seen plenty of SAAS products that have dedicated pages on their website comparing them directly to competitors.
For example, Slack competitors usually have a page for example Discord vs Slack that concisely breaks down why their software is better than competitors.

There are two benefits of this:

  1. SEO - lots of people may type and compare different payment gateways (BTCPay vs BitPay, BTCPay vs OpenNode, BTCPay vs CoinPayments) which can lead them to arrive to our website.
  2. Us monitoring what our competitors do can help us understand where we're at and even get inspiration on improving our own product.

Examples

Some examples of what I'm referring to are below:

Reading resources

@alexk111 has done an awesome job comparing different payment gateways that we can get inspiration from for criteria used for comparison.

If there's a community consensus on this, since it's a big undertaking, we can consider creating a bounty.

Proposed Process:

  • Determine page's structure
  • Change BTCPay vs others to be more concrete and target at least 3-5 big Bitcoin payment gateways.
  • Create a page for each payment gateway and nest them into docs.
  • Make pages easily scannable, concise with comparison table and a date of the revision

Alternative approach

Alternative approach would be to write articles like this on our blog https://blog.blockonomics.co/top-5-bitpay-alternatives-46df15ea0c31

I'm not really sure if this should be in docs, blog or website. Makes sense to go with a website, but consideirng translations, it may be easier to do it in docs. Maybe this all doesn't really make sense. It certainly should be considered a low-priority thing.

Looking forward to hearing some thoughts about this.
