The last commit has been pushed 6 years ago. The current owner no longer has the time to maintain this repository. For this repository to stay relevant, it needs new maintainers that can fix the problems in the issues list. Anybody that feels that they want to take this on, please comment in this issue.

Another way, since I'm very pessimistic someone would, can direct users to a recommended other project?

(since it seems WinCacheGrid has good SEO)

I have put a big note to QCacheGrind both in README and the website.

QCacheGrind doesn't handle xdebug very well due to various issues (for example, it chokes on null bytes found in class@anonymous call frames).

I've had some success installing kcachegrind in WSL on Windows 11:

It's a little small and hard to read, but works better for me than QCacheGrind.
