I am reporting a request received by email from pierandrea.malfi (at gmail) about extending circuitikz to draw pneumatic and oleo-pneumatic circuits. I will attach examples at the end of this post.
Open for discussion:
I think that this is a very specific, tangential field, so I do not know if a different package would be better --- or at list a loadable module.
There is an example online about chemical flowcharts: https://gitlab.com/jellespijker/PIDcircuitTikZ (which is based on the internal TikZ circuit library, not on circuitikz!): maybe that would be the way to go forward? (see also here)
Anyway, I am not expert (understatement of the century for "I know nothing") about this field, so I think I am not the best one to do it...
Add references to standards, usage, etc.
Again --- somebody should add the relevant standard, please edit/add to this post.
Examples
The following examples are a bit of a mixed bag in the sense that there are several different components, and the ones used in the examples are not always the same in the list, but, as I said...
Example of a circuit

interesting proposal indeed, but i do think that this, on a conceptual level, doesn't belong to circuitikz...
in an ideal case, creating new nodes shouldn't have to deal with that much complexity of pgf layer, ,and creating new "libraries" (aka, new packages in tex lingo) of components should have been much easier...
but as that's not the case, i can see the technical motivation behind this request.
