Plus sign flags or ignoring minus sign flags

I'm working on a command akin to chmod where one "adds" permissions via flags like -r, +w, -rw, etc.

When I try to implement this via clap, as I have with many other commands in the ecosystem, this simply doesn't seem possible:

• Clap itself doesn't seem to support any flags other than minus sign ones.
• When I try to handle flags manually, clap automatically detects the minus flags but since I'm handling them manually, they're not defined in the parser and are resolved as an error.
• Forcing users to use -- is too much of a departure from the original idea.
• Defining minus flags in the parser while handling plus flags manually makes documentation and subsequently help messages misleading, not to mention attempted double implementation of handling the flags manually the same way as clap would is incredibly error-prone
• Inserting -- into the argument iterator that is being parsed prevents the user from doing so themselves (double -- is interpreted as error) for operations that would require it such as recognizing invalid options as an error (unless implemented manually, at which point I might as well implement clap from scratch) or defining a non-flag argument starting with -.

Is my only options implementing my own argument parser? Is there a way to disable minus flag recognition without so I can enjoy all the other luxuries of using the crate? Does clap plan on supporting plus sign flags or did I miss something in the documentation?

I've tried looking for this topic multiple times but I'm not intimately familiar with the terminology so my search might've been off. This does seem like a rather useful/common thing to want from an argument parser though, so I'm not sure what to make of it. The documentation doesn't lend itself well to reading with understanding for people other than those who already understand the underlying mechanisms, so it's entirely possible I missed something, any help would be greatly appreciated!

#2468 is our issue for custom flags.

You could use Arg::allow_hyphen_value so - prefixed values aren't always captured as flags.
