India is the most complex country with regards to the different regions, their festivities, languages and the use of different calendar systems to my believe.
So for now I have no urgent plans to start with this work. But maybe you like to give it a start with support for fix date lists which may need manual updates each year?

Thanks for the response.
Yes. India is diversified by culture and united by nation. On every region they have own festivals holidays.
And also few festival holidays will based on Astrology Timing.
Yes Its requires manual update each year.
Definitely I will try to collect fix holidays date list for different region.

Okay. Can we use governments approved holidays for all states?
I'm sure we will find very few genuine holidays for India.
What do you think?

@iamsrujal : I like your idea. If you can help us find primary sources for state specific holidays, that would be appreciated. For example, links to government websites or legislation. The aggregation sites such as timeanddate.com are not as helpful for us.

Okay. I'd love to help you.

Are we looking for open source Api Endpoint? Is it okay to have paid REST API?

India has the concept of "fixed" & "floating" holidays
3 fixed holidays:

  • Jan 26
  • Aug 15
  • Oct 2

Rest of the floating holidays depends on region as well as central government from year to year.
I think its fair to add support at minimum for the fixed holidays.

This wikipedia article has good references for deeper research

This piqued my interest and I cross-referenced it with the holidays listed for 'US' (where I live) and it lists "Columbus Day" as a "public" holiday which is incorrect as its not a federal holiday, most regions don't observe it as a holiday and some regions celebrate it as "Indigenous Peoples' Day"

#477 adds the 3 fixed holidays if that helps and thank you for this nifty lib - helped me get through a mini personal project quickly.
