Is it possible to preserve whitespace in generated css?

import { parse, walk, generate } from 'css-tree';

const ast = parse('a { border: calc(1px) solid #ff0000 }');

walk(ast, (node) => {
  // ...
});

console.log(generate(ast));
// default output: a{border:calc(1px) solid#ff0000}
// with preserve whitespace option: a { border: calc(1px) solid #ff0000 }

Why is there no option for this, is it mostly unnecessary?
