We would love for our request templates (found in the templates folder) to be available in all EU languages, so we can offer our website in more languages.

We will gladly take translations into any language spoken in EU countries. We are particularly interested in languages from countries we are already supporting. Please note that we can only accept human translations and not machine translations (like Google Translator etc.)

Please note that we only need translations for these templates: access-default.txt, access-tracking.txt, admonition.txt, complaint.txt, erasure-default.txt, objection-default.txt, and rectification-default.txt. The other ones are usually country-specific and don't need to be translated.
Also please make sure that you preserve the formatting of the templates, especially whitespace. This is important for them to be rendered correctly on our website

Do feel free to submit a PR translating just one or a couple of templates, you don't need to do them all at once.

Update for Hacktoberfest 2021: Thanks to your help, we already have template translations in quite a few languages. However, there are still many EU languages left and we would greatly appreciate any help in translating the templates in those languages as well.

Also, we have recently implemented some changes to the template texts. So far, these changes have only been implemented in a few languages. We also need these changes implemented in the other existing template languages. This makes for a great easy PR if templates in your language already exist.

The following templates need to be updated (checked items have already been updated):

  • Greek
    • access-default.txt and access-tracking.txt
    • admonition.txt
    • erasure-default.txt
    • objection-default.txt (still needs to be translated in the first place)
    • rectification-default.txt
  • Spanish
    • access-default.txt and access-tracking.txt
    • admonition.txt
    • erasure-default.txt
    • objection-default.txt
    • rectification-default.txt
  • French
    • access-default.txt and access-tracking.txt
    • admonition.txt
    • erasure-default.txt
    • objection-default.txt
    • rectification-default.txt
  • Croatian
    • access-default.txt and access-tracking.txt
    • admonition.txt
    • erasure-default.txt
    • objection-default.txt
    • rectification-default.txt
  • Italian
    • access-default.txt and access-tracking.txt
    • admonition.txt
    • erasure-default.txt
    • objection-default.txt
    • rectification-default.txt
  • Portuguese
    • access-default.txt and access-tracking.txt
    • admonition.txt
    • erasure-default.txt
    • objection-default.txt (still needs to be translated in the first place)
    • rectification-default.txt

We need new template translations in the following EU languages (checked items are done already):

  • Bulgarian
  • Croatian
  • Czech (assigned to @skvrnami)
  • Danish
  • Dutch
  • English
  • Estonian
  • Finnish
  • French
  • German
  • Greek (only objection template)
  • Hungarian
  • Irish
  • Italian
  • Latvian
  • Lithuanian
  • Maltese
  • Polish
  • Portuguese
  • Romanian
  • Slovak
  • Slovenian
  • Spanish
  • Swedish (only some templates missing)

If you want to work on something, just let us know and we'll assign you in the list so work isn't done twice.

No sorry, we are not looking for machine translations. It is important that the text in these templates is correct as they have legal consequences.

Just fork the repository and push your changes to your fork. Then you can create an PR from your forked repo to ours. See here: https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-create-a-pull-request-on-github#create-a-copy-of-the-repository

I've translated "rectification-default.txt" to brazilian portuguese.

@MichelleCordeiro Since I unfortunately know close to nothing about Portuguese: Will this be understandable to Portuguese speakers from Portugal? Or do we need to provide a different template for them?

Hi there @zner0L
As a native brazilian portuguese speaker, I could say that portuguese from different countries (like Brazil, Portugal or Angola) are similar but have a bunch of differences that make some texts not understandable for foreign portuguese speakers.

And yet, I could translate some templates to brazilian portuguese! :)

@KiSobral OK, thank you for the clarification. You are very welcome to translate some text so Brazilian Portuguese. @baltpeter We will need a way to figure out how to distinguish dialect differences in our templates because we currently don't support them

@imrishabh18 Personally, I don't really see a use for that but we do already have a Hindi translation of the admonition template (#321).

Update for 2021: There have since been a few other changes (still nothing major, though). As such, it's now probably be easier to compare the templates in your language to the English ones rather than going by the diffs in the PRs.

Hi everyone! We have recently updated our templates in #562. I have implemented those changes for the German and English templates. It would great we could find people to incorporate the changes for the other languages as well.
The changes are fairly minimal, so this should hopefully not be too much work.

Huge thanks in advance!

Fo future reference: 😃
I recommend anyone translating the templates to check https://gdprinfo.eu/ and make sure the language is consistent with their usage. For example controller in Swedish can be translated to kontrollant and in some cases registeransvarige, but the most accurate translation in this context would be personuppgiftsansvarige, which is consistent with the usage at https://gdprinfo.eu/ (they have the legal text translated into 24 different EU languages).

Can be verified (for example): Article 12 in Swedish and English

Good tip, @Bruno-366! I'd especially recommend looking at Art. 4 GDPR which lists definitions (and as such also the canonical translation) for the most important terms.

@baltpeter Added the remaining files to the Swedish (sv) translations of the template after correcting a few formatting errors in the files.
