keep getting this error 'nstallation start
install: cannot stat './app/mcontrolcenter': No such file or directory

Figured it out, I ignored "from the releases page" this is not the way I was used to. For anyone else, you must download FROM THE RELEASES PAGE, not git clone or the zip from the main page.
