It appears that it is expected that lz4 compression of chunks expects framing; it's not just compression. It would be appreciated if https://github.com/foxglove/mcap/blob/361515fc4eb4c6da40e08d76485c08a33ab28077/docs/specification/appendix.md#well-known-compression-formats had clear definitions of the expectations around lz4/zstd, in the same way that the schema encodings try to explicitly explain the formats that they use.
