OnClick for async validation

We have a next use case: Google Pay button is on a product page (on a screenshot it can be below "Add to cart").
When user clicks on it we should perform a validation to check if we can start payment. We should cancel payment if for example user haven't chosen a product color. To cover it, we can use event.preventDefault() during onClick.
But we also have a use case when we need to do async validation - e.g. check an inventory for available products before purchase.

Maybe someone has suggestion how to overcome it, since currently from the source code I see that onClick works in a sync manner. I also understand that there is a concern that some browsers might not get user gesture and modal can be blocked.

So any advice is really appreciated!

@vsashyn Could you check your inventory after the Google Pay flow? Just before sending the token to your PSP for the actual authoriziation.
