Testing Google Pay integrations without a debit or credit card

If you've ever needed to test out Google Pay in TEST, but don't have access to or prefer not to use real card details, Google Pay provides support with test card data.

The process involves signing in and joining the googlepay-test-mode-stub-data group. Note that this can be your primary Google account or a separate Google account that you use for testing purposes.

When you are done testing, or if you would like to test with your own payment methods, leave the googlepay-test-mode-stub-data group by selecting My membership settings and click Leave group.

Caveats:

• Test data is only available for test integrations. That is, Google Pay integrations that target the TEST environment.
• Only AMEX, DISCOVER, MASTERCARD, and VISA cards are currently returned.
• All cards will have the same US based billing address.
• Available shipping addresses are currently limited to the US, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, Poland, Russia, and Singapore. There is currently no support for adding a new shipping address of your own.

Hi, didn't want to raise an issue as not relevant to this specific repo.
Any idea why suddenly the test cards would not be visible for the account which has joined that group?

We share one account for testing Google Pay within the company and neither of us can now see any test cards. Only option Google Pay dialog offers is to add new payment option. During debugging I can confirm that we are using TEST environment.

I have tried to leave and rejoin the group with that account, also tried wiping Google application data on the device and log in once again, but neither of them things made any difference.

Hi @nzakharchenko . Not really. But I discovered some more details :

1. Test cards are still visible in web implementations
2. I was able to get test cards on old emulators(API 22 and 23) but on newer devices the issue still exists

So my assumption is that account obviously still has the cards assigned to it. But the issue happens for more recent Android versions, where obviously a google account is heavily used for setting device up. Google perhaps has changed something as it used to work fine before.

But this is all only my stupid assumptions. You are the first person I have seen online also complaining about this issue. It would be great to get some response from Google.

@socsieng @nzakharchenko I managed to confirm my suspicion by running Google Pay Android Demo app https://github.com/google-pay/android-quickstart on Emulator API 23 which showed the test cards, but the same code run on Android 11 device showed no payment methods for the same account. So I think test card suite is not reliable and you have to use a real card and just hope that bank doesn't cancel your card because of suspicious activity. Can't believe Google doesn't care to fix this.

@Vkalns interesting! Thx for checking that. I gonna try to test on emulator with API23. But definitely would be great if Google could fix that :(
