As some of us may know, HackerspaceSG is in perpetual need of fresh blood, especially since we've neglected membership marketing for quite a while.

It might be high time we introduce a member-get-member scheme, as one of the many things we should do to boost our revenues.

Some specifics I've thought of:

  • A bonus equal to the referred tier could be credited to the referrer's account, after the referee has paid 3 months of membership.
  • We may claw back the referral bonus if the referee does not remain a member for at least 12 months.
  • Former members are eligible to be referred if they have not been issued an invoice for at least 12 months.

One other benefit to this is that it might help current members with considerable membership arrears pay off some of the amount that they owe HackerspaceSG, and give them an actual incentive to actively recruit new members.

Discussion from 2022-05-24 plenum:

  • KH: Good idea, but records and enforcement could be tricky
  • Val: maybe we could just not do it?
  • Think about it for one more month before closing? (KH @icedwater, Val)
