whenever I add remote_theme: jekyll/minima to the _config.yml
I get the following error in building

github-pages 228 | Error:  Undefined variable: "$grey-color". on line 132

i had the same issue and my _config.yml contained both theme and remote_theme keys.
you should remove theme and it works fine.
