Which files have to modified to add a wrapper to the Jupyter lab UI

I wanted to add a wrapper layer to the Jupyter lab UI, an additional side panel. But somehow I am not able to find which is the root file from which I can make changes for this. I had done changes for adding menus, deleting menus, modifying filebrowser etc.

Or I will create a seperate class and in the render of that class which function/class of the jupyter code base have to be invoked.

I need both options
