Running systemd with --runtime io.containerd.kata.v2

I want to run systemd inside a container with the kata runtime, I tried:

docker run --rm --runtime io.containerd.kata.v2 -it docker.io/nestybox/ubuntu-jammy-systemd

When I run this I get exit status 255. The systemd-journal, docker events and kata-runtime env output for this can be seen here.

Are there any examples somewhere of how to make systemd run inside a kata runtime?

I suspect the problem may be related to

It can't be kernel: eth0: Caught tx_queue_len zero misconfig because this shows up when this runs succesfully:
