TypeError: sodium.sodium_malloc is not a function

Team, I am getting this while using jest + ts-jest, project is configured for ESM:

  ● Test suite failed to run

    TypeError: sodium.sodium_malloc is not a function

I am getting this error using NODE_OPTIONS=--experimental-vm-modules jest, any suggestions where to find the root cause?

It's very easy to reproduce, just install
https://www.npmjs.com/package/sodium-native + https://www.npmjs.com/package/@types/sodium-native

This is fixed by using: import sodium from 'sodium-native';

in both tests and src/
