What is the divider* options goal?

I have seen the divider* options and also the sample about them.

Nevertheless I have to admit that it's not clear to me the goal of those options.

In the sample, I see 2 objects with the same category and I was thinking that divider could outline the 2 objects, represented by the same element. But I'm not really sure.
