Feature request: multi-modules to separate annotations and implementation

This is kind of a big ask, but I was wondering if you would consider splitting the code up so that annotations would get its own module, similar to the jackson-annotations project.

The advantage of this is that the annotations would be a smaller dependency for code that wants be to annotated, but may not necessarily need the implementation code.

Just wanted to throw this idea out there to see what you thought.
