I think what you're looking for the publish --canary option and also possibly the --preid alpha option as well

with --canary command does not generate any changelog

well you also need to use --conventional-commits, if you are new to Lerna I would suggest you watch some learning videos, for example this one helped me a lot to get started How to Use Lerna

@whatwg6 it's been a while since that work was done, but I have a feeling in the case of v5 I passed an explicit version to lerna version myself, i.e. lerna version 5.0.0-alpha.0 --force-publish
