Should the lerna version command use the term "publish" or "push"?

After working with lerna version today, I realized a semantic issue that was quite confusing, the use of the word "publish".

My understanding is that lerna version isn't actually "publishing" like lerna publish, but rather it's "pushing" a commit to the source control repository?

Am I missing something here and should this be filed as an issue?
