Design: white text over blobs of white background

As I was translating the page on verification into a new language, I noticed an issue with the design: white text blends in with the white regions of the planet in the background, making the text somewhat harder to read.

Captured in latest mainline Firefox at width of 1702 (2/3rds of 2560 minus OS frames), but seems to occur at width>1536px in general.

do we want the styling to be as it was for width <1536 ?
i.e (more specifically, do we want the planet behind those buttons?)

Leaving this open as it may not apply at all window sizes but PR #387 should have improved this in most cases.
