Similar issue - #1172

Disabling eslint through extension panel does not work unless VSCode is restarted as well. It's a complicated process for something that could be done with a single command.

Personally, I do not like to see eslint colorization when I am writing code, but it becomes useful when I am about to commit changes.

So it seems that VSCode now actually supports disabling extensions without restarting the editor.

I'll leave the issue open in case ESLint team still wants to take a look at this (maybe add command to temporary disable highlighting instead). But for now this functionality is much less important. Feel free to close the issue.
