When you link a channel text is not sent between channels, as some would expect. Could we have an option for what to link, or just send everything between channels?

I am curious what other community members and contributors think about this behavior.

From a historic perspective, link support was in Mumble before text messaging. When messaging was implemented, integrating it with link support wasn't thought of.

It's obviously not documented as working with text messages either. But you are right that one would probably expect it to work.

Intuitively, I would expect it to function. Practically, while I use text
messages often, I use channel linking so infrequently that it hasn't come
up. My personal experience is largely irrelevant though.

This has annoyed me for a while: wanting to send chat several messages to specific user without having to right click them for every message. However, I do not want to go into the preferences and toggle "Use selected item as the chat bar target" each time I need to do this. What could be added is a dropdown menu by the chat box to select your current chat sending mode, including "Current channel", "Selected item", "Current + Linked channels", etc.. (This idea would be superseded by chat tabs, if they ever get implemented).

Just bumped into wanting this to be a feature; we have a mumbledj channel for people to listen to music as a sub of our public channel, however text doesn’t pass through so sharing links to people we’re chatting to sometimes triggers syn/ack :)

Same as above. We want to create a global AFK music bot that would listen to commands on all AFK channels whilst not being in any of them.
