Which URL should a @neondatabase/serverless connection use?

The directions for @neondatabase/serverless say to get the connection URL from the Neon console, but not whether it should be from the "Pooled connection" tab or "Direct connection" tab. Which one is a better default?

(More generally, I don't have a good mental model of how Postgres connection pooling works. Does this happen on the client or the server?)

I asked support. They recommended using the pooled connection by default, to avoid running out of connections.
