Steps for use:
1.) Download zip file from github
2.) Unzip where ever you please
3.) Create gendata.conf in /tmp/ directory (following specification will detail configurations)
4.) Run "python gendatad.py start" to start generating data
5.) Run "python gendatad.py stop" to stop generating data
* stdout and stderr are redirected to log files in /tmp/ called gendata_stdout.log and gendata_stderr.log
* If you stop gendata and then start it again, it will start appending to the same file. It will not truncate.
In order to use gendata, create a gendata.conf file in the directory /tmp.
gendata.conf spec:
filename = <path-of-logfile>
* This is the name of the logfile that you will be generating.
* Defaults to /tmp/test.log
numfields = <int>
* This is the number of fields that will be generated.
* Fields will be named field0=<int> field1=<int> etc.
* Field values will be in a range from 100 to 999
* Defaults to 10
multiline = <boolean>
* Determines if using multiline events or single line events
* This parameter should be used with fieldsPerLine
* Defaults to False
fieldsPerLine = <int>
* Determines how many fields to use per line when using multiline=True
* Defaults to 1
filetype = log|csv|xml
* Determines the type of log file to generate
* Defaults to log
