nteract v 0.12.1 has black menu bar with no visible menu labels #3505
Comments
Looks like this might be related to electron/electron#13381 (comment) |
Maybe... but I don't have the same problems in other electron apps. |
Likely they're still using Electron version 2 which used GTK 2 |
Atom seems to work, and I think it uses electro 3. Nevertheless, it seems
to be, at least, related. Although the problem is the inverse, the menu is
black even in a light theme while in the electron bug the problem seems to
be that the menu is always white. Maybe the fix for that bug introduced the
issue?

Also, nteract 0.11.9 worked fine. Did it use a different version of
electron?

Thanks for the report @nicocarbone. It appears that nteract 0.11.9 used electron 2.0.9. While, 0.12.1 uses electron 3.
Just to clarify, does it display correctly with this setting? Do you see any errors when you toggle on the Developer tools and view the Console? |
Yes, changing the theme to Yaru-dark solves the problem. The menu bar stays
dark, but now the font is white.
How do I enable developer tools?
Executing nteract from the command line gives this:
[22:09:13.944] [info] args { _: [],
kernel: 'python3',
k: 'python3',
'$0': '/opt/nteract/nteract' }
[22:09:14.057] [warn] APPIMAGE env is not defined, current application is
not an AppImage
[22:09:14.124] [info] launching an empty notebook by default

That give an idea and changing the theme to Yaru-dark works
(GTK_THEME=Yaru-dark nteract).

This issue hasn't had any activity on it in the last 90 days. Unfortunately we don't get around to dealing with every issue that is opened. Instead of leaving issues open we're seeking to be transparent by closing issues that aren't being prioritized. If no other activity happens on this issue in one week, it will be closed.
Thank you! |
In the new version of nteract (v0.12.1) the menu bar is black and, apparently, so is the text menu. Menu text is then not visible. This was not happening in the previous version.
Also, don't know if related, the start-up animation is not longer displayed.
I attach screenshots of the problem
I am using Ubuntu 18.10 amd64. This happens in the .deb and in the AppImage.
The text was updated successfully, but these errors were encountered:
