Consolidate and refine methods for getting the org path.

there are to many ways to get an organization path.
the problem i have noticed has to do with separating the root organization url from the sub org path.
right now the helpers for it don't really make that distinction.

this becomes a problem when you are trying to fill in the org_path for a given link.

#555 this kind of mistake is really easy to make with the current helpers.
