toString or end with arguments sets writer forever

Calling toString or end with arguments (like pretty = true) will set the writer for all subsequent toString or end calls (that might not have arguments). This causes silliness when you want to print the XML document one way, then send it off another - you have to pretty much negate the original toString (or end) arguments or always set defaults.
