Seems like this limitation is designed for the public zrok.io network. Is there a way to bypass this if using a self hosted environment?

The profanity screening was intended for the public environment. The rest of the limitations are there to accomodate either the database schema or the requirements for DNS names.

There's not currently a way to bypass this. A future release will probably change these requirements very slightly to allow -, and a length suitable for GUIDs.
