GitHub App has access to PR patches but not diffs

Hello

I'm building a GitHub App with the following permissions:

Repository:

• Issues (read & write)
• metadata (read only)
• Pull requests (read & write)

Account permissions

• Email addresses (read only)

I'm using Octokit to get a Pull Request using the API (endpoint). Using the application/vnd.github.patch media type provides me with the patch strings for the commits in the Pull Request but whenever I try to use the application/vnd.github.diff media type, the API returns a 403 error.

As far as I know, these provide the same or very similar data. I don't understand why I'd have access to one resource but not the other.

Can you help me make sense of this please?

@ossanna16 I managed to resolve my issue and have opened a PR to update the Github docs to highlight the issue for future reference.

The solution as suggested by @alaabouayed was to update the permission of the Github app to also include content:read in the app's settings:
